The entertainment industry says goodbye to a celebrated actor whose impactful roles and decades-long career left a significant mark on television history.

Wayne Northrop, the beloved actor best known for his roles on “Days of Our Lives” and “Dynasty,” has passed away at 77.

According to his publicist, Cynthia Snyder, Wayne died on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home. The actor had been battling Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Wayne’s wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, shared a heartfelt statement confirming his death. “Wayne was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 6 years ago. He took his last breath in the arms of his family,” said Lynn.

She also expressed gratitude to the Motion Picture and Television Home for their compassionate care. “Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many,” her statement continued.

The late TV star is survived by his wife, their sons Hank (and his wife Laura) and Grady, as well as his stepmother, Janet Northrop.

Wayne leaves behind a rich legacy of television roles and personal accomplishments spanning decades. Born on April 12, 1947, in Sumner, Washington, he became a beloved figure in Hollywood, celebrated for his versatile performances across daytime and primetime television.

Wayne’s acting career flourished with his iconic portrayal of Roman Brady on “Days of Our Lives,” a role he played in over 1,000 episodes. He later returned to the show as Dr. Alex North, showcasing his ability to redefine his presence on screen. On the primetime hit “Dynasty,” he played Michael Culhane, the loyal yet ambitious chauffeur to oil magnate Blake Carrington.

Wayne’s career also included memorable roles in “L.A. Law” and “Port Charles,” where he portrayed Rex Stanton, a cunning and manipulative character.

Beyond his acting accolades, Wayne’s personal life was equally noteworthy. He met his wife, actress Lynn Herring, in an acting class in Los Angeles. The two married on May 9, 1981, in Jennings, Louisiana, Lynn’s mother’s hometown. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and a shared passion for the outdoors.

In the late 1980s, Wayne and Lynn purchased a working cattle ranch in Raymond, California. The couple immersed themselves in ranch life, and in 2008, they acquired and restored the oldest house in Raymond, originally built in 1886.

Lynn reflected on the joys of ranch life in a 1997 interview with Soap Opera Digest, saying, “Wayne goes whenever he gets the chance because he’s the business manager, the rancher — everything. It’s the best life I could picture for the kids: so many wonderful things up there, really nice people. It’s a lot less complicated than L.A.”
