Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his stance on the Gaza conflict amid growing pressure for a cease-fire. This comes after large-scale protests in Israel and criticism from U.S. President Joe Biden.

Netanyahu emphasized the importance of maintaining Israeli control over the Philadelphi corridor, a strip along Gaza’s border with Egypt. He claims this area is crucial for preventing Hamas from rearming, though Egypt and Hamas dispute this assertion.

The discovery of six more deceased hostages has intensified public outcry in Israel. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, demanding immediate action on a hostage deal. However, some Israelis continue to support Netanyahu’s military campaign in Gaza.

The ongoing conflict, which began after Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, has resulted in significant Palestinian casualties in Gaza. Netanyahu maintains that continued military pressure will force Hamas to concede to Israeli demands and potentially facilitate hostage rescue operations.

U.S. President Biden expressed dissatisfaction with Netanyahu’s efforts, stating that more needs to be done. Biden remains hopeful about reaching a deal, despite the challenges.

Hamas accuses Israel of prolonging negotiations by introducing new demands. The militant group has offered to release all hostages in exchange for ending the war, a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Netanyahu has rejected calls for a full withdrawal from Gaza, citing concerns over border control. He expressed readiness for a phased cease-fire plan but remains committed to what he terms “total victory” over Hamas.
